Riley Matthews

Riley MatthewsRiley Matthews is a thirteen-year-old student at John Quincy Adams high school, where her father, Cory, is her teacher. Riley, along with younger brother Auggie, are the children of Cory and Topanga Matthews, whose relationship was one of the central storylines on the sitcom Boy Meets World.

Riley is best friends with Maya Hart, who occasionally gets herself and Riley into trouble. Riley has a friendship and one-time relationship with Lucas Friar, who transferred to their school from Texas. Riley was instantly smitten with Lucas and they later shared their first kiss together.

Riley takes a lot of her personality traits from her father, Cory. Shawn jokingly described Riley as "Cory with Topanga's hair". Riley is warm and outgoing, but she has a somewhat obsessive and quirky side and occasionally finds herself acting awkwardly. Much like Cory was to Shawn, Riley is sometimes a guiding light for Maya, who has had a less stable home life and sometimes needs a good friend to keep her on the right path.

Season 1

Throughout the first season of Girl Meets World, Riley's budding romance with new classmate Lucas was a key theme. As Riley considered entering the dating world and maturing, Cory in particular occasionally had mixed feelings at seeing his daughter growing up. With her newfound feelings for Lucas, Riley also experienced feelings of jealously.

Riley found a new appreciation for her parents hard work when a school assignment saw her and Maya work with the underappreciated school lunch lady. After a classmate teased Farkle for being different, Riley, Maya and Lucas banded together to show him everybody has insecurities but also unique qualities that make them who they are. When Shawn Hunter visited for Christmas, Riley confronted him over her feelings that Shawn was uncomfortable being around her.

When Lucas asked Cory's permission to take Riley out on a date, Cory agreed so long as Maya and Farkle joined them. As they rode the subway, Lucas and Riley shared their first kiss.

Season 2

In Girl Meets World's second season, Riley and Maya dealt with a new teacher, only to find themselves back in Cory's class. After classmates pushed Riley and Lucas to declare whether they were a couple following their first kiss, the pair briefly decided to be boyfriend and girlfriend. Following a short awkward relationship, they realized they were happier being friends and they broke up.

Riley was upset when it was revealed Lucas kept a secret about his past in Texas. Riley wasn't bothered about the reason behind Lucas's expulsion from his Texas school, but that he didn't trust her enough to tell her about his past. Riley and Maya traveled to Philadelphia with Cory, Topanga and Shawn to dig up a time capsule the old friends buried in Mr. Feeny's backyard. Riley and classmates made their own time capsule, in which Riley placed a Pluto figure as it's her favorite "planet" despite its demotion to dwarf planet status.

Riley and Maya had an argument over Riley not backing Maya up after Lucas said something about her height. Cory drafted in Eric and his Plays with Squirrels persona to help the friends overcome their disagreement.
